Whole Bhatti-dried black cardamom pods, hand-graded and lab-tested, in a reusable 250g jar.

Signature Jar

250g amber glass · Bold (22 – 28 mm)

Our 250g Signature Jar is the simplest way to keep restaurant-grade black cardamom in your kitchen. Whole bold-grade pods, hand-sorted and Bhatti-cured over a wood fire for the smoky depth this spice is bought for, sealed in UV-blocking amber glass so the aroma survives months on your shelf.

Why buyers pick this pack

  • Whole bold-grade pods, 22–28 mm
  • UV-blocking amber glass, airtight twist lid
  • Laser-etched batch number for traceability
  • Best-before 24 months from harvest
In the kitchen

Crack one pod per cup of rice for biryani and pulao, steep in Himalayan chai, or drop whole into slow-braised meats.

Who buys the 250g jar

This is the pack for a household that cooks with black cardamom deliberately rather than occasionally. If you make biryani, pulao, or a slow dal often enough that a supermarket sachet runs out mid-recipe, 250g of whole bold pods is roughly a season of cooking without a reorder.

It is also the pack that gets bought as a gift, which is why it is the only SKU we put in glass. Cooks who have only met black cardamom as a grey powder in a spice-rack jar tend to open this one, smell it, and then buy the pouch.

Storing an open jar

Amber glass is doing real work here: light degrades the volatile oils that carry the aroma, and a clear jar on a sunny shelf will flatten the smoke inside a few months. Keep the lid twisted shut between uses.

  • Cupboard, not fridge. Cold storage drives condensation into the pods every time you open the jar, and moisture is the one thing whole cardamom cannot recover from.
  • Keep it off the hob and away from the oven vent. Sustained warmth is the second-fastest way to lose the top notes.
  • Crack pods as you cook, not in advance. An intact husk is the best container the seed will ever have.
  • 24 months from harvest whole. The batch number laser-etched on the base tells us which lot and which kiln load it came from if you ever need to ask.

Questions

About the signature jar

Something not covered here? Ask us directly. We reply within one business day.

Is the Signature Jar smoked?

Yes. The retail jar is Bhatti-cured over a wood fire, so it carries the deep smoky-resinous note black cardamom is known for. If you want the smoke-free closed-flue version, it is available on the bulk and ground SKUs, where you nominate the drying line at quote time.

How many pods are in a 250g jar?

We fill by weight, not count, so it varies with pod size within the bold band. Practically, one cracked pod seasons a cup of rice or a pot of chai, and most households find a jar lasts several months of weekly cooking.

Can I grind the pods from this jar?

You can, and grinding fresh beats any pre-ground powder. Crack the husk, take the sticky black seeds, and grind those, the husk itself is fibrous and mostly aroma rather than flavour. If you grind regularly and in quantity, the 1kg ground pack is cheaper per gram than doing it yourself.

Is the jar reusable?

It is meant to be. Recycled amber glass with a metal twist lid, no plastic liner, and it takes a refill from the 500g Kitchen Pouch almost exactly twice.
